How Deep the Father's Love
I was doing my QT this morning in the office.
"And the king said to her, 'What do you wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given to you - up to half my kingdom!'"
Esther 5:3
How generous the king was!
Following that, an example was given of one philosopher who, having served Alexander the Great outstandingly, wanted to borrow some money from him. His request: an equivalent of today's US$50,000. The treasurer was hesitant and asked Alexander about it, following which Alex merely granted the philosopher his money, saying that "By the large size of his request he shows that he has understood both my wealth and generosity."
Similarly, we see that our GOD is generous and gracious. But dissimilarly, his generosity and graciousness and mercy is infinite. No request is ever too big for GOD. But there's a catch: that the request be according to GOD's will and according to GOD's nature.
"He who did not spare His own Son, but gave him up for us all, how shall He not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?"
Romans 8:32
Many times, I really do wonder if GOD can possibly forgive me again and again for the same sins I've committed time and again. It has been said that,
"It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace."
Hebrews 6:4-6
Yet, it has also been said that,
"... neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39
I have long been struggling with these 2 schools of thought. Sometimes, I'm quite sure that salvation can be lost because we're intentionally sinning, knowing the consequences. That kinda satisfies GOD's justice, doesn't it? On the other hand, I also feel that you cannot lose salvation because that's evident of GOD's grace.
Well, regardless, we should all live as though salvation can be lost. But fret not, because GOD is generous and gracious and merciful. So yes, HE can forgive you for those sins.
Big gifts are a sign of a big GOD.
Here's a song that really infiltrated my day. I've been humming it since morning...
"How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.
Behold the Man upon the cross,
My sin upon His shoulder.
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out amoung the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished.
His dying breath has brought me life,
I know that it is finished.
I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom.
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have paid my ransom."
