Another Night Walk
Hi everybody!
Yesterday evening, I went to Lower Peirce Reservoir to with the intention to just sit and enjoy the sunset and the peace and quiet, and probably take a few photos. Joanna came along too.
In the end, we started to take photos the moment we were there: about 5+. And we shot through till the sun really set, and the sky was black, then we sat on the rocks for abit, chatting abit, playing with my LASER pointer and my torches. It was a misty night so the LASER beam was super visible. Haha!
Anyways, we got abit hungry so we decided to get up and have a night walk through Lower Peirce's boardwalk, up to Casuarina Rd for prata for dinner. In my preparation for the shoot, I brought along 2 white lights and 1 UV light, just in case we were able to walk through the forest in the dark. And we did!
What's the UV light for, u ask. Well, to look for scorpions of course. However, I didn't have high hopes of finding any because I was given the impression that they don't really come out when it's really wet. And it was raining pretty heavily just before 5+, so yes, it was really wet. All along the trail, we saw many creatures, but couldn't find any scorpions. Near the end of the trail, when I was looking out more for fireflies than scorpions, I decided to sweep my UV one last time to see if I could find any. Walah! There was one on the trunk of a big tree, glowing like a glow-in-the-dark sticker under my UV light! I'm guessing it's a bark scorpion. VERY EXCITING!!! Then as I turned this way and that to look at the scorpion, I found another one! This time, it was a female with babies on its back! Easily 30-40 baby scorpions there, I'd say. Then whilst we were musing over these 2, we found yet another one near the base of the same tree trunk! 3 scorpions on one tree in one night! How's that for luck?
It gets even better.
As we left the 3 scorpions, I started shining my light around to see if I could find anymore... and yes! I did find more... 3 more, in fact! All in all, 6 adult scorpions, many baby scorpions. This more than makes up for the past few times I haven't been able to spot one. And now I know my UV light works to pick them out from their camouflage! Yeah yeah! Coz when I shone my white light on them, you really wouldn't have seen them if you didn't know they were there.
Time to do up my scorpion tank!
